LEARNING
English
Since September 2022, La Sala school has officially become a Cambridge International school. From K5 to 5th grade, students learn English through Cambridge Primary, an internationally-recognized and high-quality curriculum. All Cambridge International schools – more than 10,000 in over 160 countries worldwide – follow one program and use the same Cambridge-approved teaching methodology.
Language is a means of communication which our pupils are encouraged to use during their school day and not only within the classroom. This is true for all of our students starting from nursery where the second language becomes part of their daily routine. In kindergarten the English program is additionally enhanced allowing children to learn new vocabulary and build their first sentences. Pupils are also taught to recognize and reproduce the different sounds of English through the multi-sensory Jolly Phonics system.
LEARNING
Labs and Projects
The school offers a wide range of projects and labs available to children on a daily basis.
Plan your Future.
These projects let students apply critical thinking which helps them to develop problem-solving skills by improving their logical thinking and overall capacity to solve problems.
School counseling
Our school counselor is offering free psychological support to anyone who is experiencing or needs guidance on how to deal with emotional, relationship, behavioral and educational issues. The service is open to everyone at school, including students, parents, teachers and school staff.
Orrf-Schulwerk Music Lab
Music is particularly important to the development of children’s cognitive and relational skills.
The Orrf-Schulwerk methodology allows children to freely express their personality and build a positive attitude towards each other.
Bridging the gap between Kindergarten and Primary 2022-2023
Every year we have a program helping our students bridging the gap between K5 and first grade. For this academic year, it will start in January with a series of workshops with carefully-crafted activities dedicated to developing socio-affective skills along critical and creative thinking.
Students will be encouraged to try predict the future by being presented different scenarios and the tools needed to learn how to deal with the emotions aroused by the unknown. Our aim is to create positive feelings towards primary school and their future education.
The project is inspired by Beatrice Masini’s “The right place” whose main character, Squirrel, is determinedly searching for the right place and finally finds it despite a petulant little voice suggesting that he stays alone. This special place is an open and large space which welcomes and embraces everyone’s needs. It is also place of growth which everyone should seek.
“In the big tree, everybody had a place. Everybody was happy and everybody was where they wanted to be.”
Beatrice Masini
Educational Garden
For our little gardeners it is very important to learn how to take care of plants, vegetables and fruit during their growth. Through this, they develop the concept of caring and a sense of responsibility.
A book for a friend
Our reading project aims to foster our students’ appreciation of books while giving them the tools to better understand and analyze literary works. Children are exposed to a variety of books that can tickle and stimulate their imagination while teaching them how to approach different genres with a discerning eye.
Developing reading skills is a fundamental step to develop critical-thinking skills and become a well-rounded adult. Books are in fact food for thought, they contain memories, journeys and they help us escape every day’s life.
Therefore we think it is important for children to find delight and allies in books especially in a world which is progressively favoring virtual realities. To guide our children in their literary journey we have designed different activities ranging from interviews with writers and literary professionals,
reading and text analysis of the great classics, to discussion teams and writing practice.
School library
The school library contains books with various degrees of complexity and topics that are relevant to all our age groups. Our collection ranges from sound and tactile books, which can tickle the youngest’s imagination, to pop-ups, comics, fantasy, mystery, romance and adventure stories. There is also a selection of history, geography, as well as science books. The Italian and English language are equally represented in our library.
Books are organized according to the Celbiv system which our children learn to use with the support of symbols. Borrowing books is also part of their learning how to become more responsible.
LEARNING
Integration as an education
OOur school promotes a positive attitude among children regardless of their race, culture or nationality.
Article 3 of our Constitution guarantees equality among all citizens. To us, this means ensuring that suitable learning activities are planned to satisfy the educational potential of each and every student.
Therefore, all parts of our school – the nursery, kindergarten and primary school – offer a flexible and consistent learning programme with tailor-made learning objectives.
LEARNING
Family-School Link
The relationship with the family has a fundamental role in the education of a child.
This relationship expresses itself through reciprocity and support on both sides.
Teachers and parents will periodically meet to discuss the child’s goals and achievements and will cooperate and support each other.
Each member of the teaching staff will have a meeting schedule available to parents.
